14th September 2013 – Chief Scouts Award

The Saturn Pack CSA candidates completed the expedition element of the award this weekend by undertaking an overnight hike in County Wicklow.

Four cubs began their hike early on Saturday morning from the upper lake of Glendalough. They followed the Wicklow Way and made great progress ascending Mullacor.

They reached their highest point at Lugduff Gap (500 m) and all had their photographs taken on the board walk to mark the occasion!

That point marked the descent towards Glenmalure. It was on this path that the cubs spent the night in the Mullacor Hut which is kindly provided by the Mountain Meitheal group of volunteers and the cubs left them a note in the visitors book.

The evening was spent playing cards, cooking dinner and lighting the fire. Everyone was in high spirits after completing the 10km hike with bags.

The group were asleep by ten o’clock and were surprisingly warm!

The next morning saw a turn in the weather, but the adventurous bunch pushed on to Glenmalure village to meet the rest of the pack who were joining them for the second day of the hike.
